Choosing Your Best Foundation Shade

Choosing your best foundation shade isn't difficult, after all, for ages, makeup has been an integral part of life for women across the world. The right kind of makeup can enhance your look while wrongly chosen or applied makeup can give you a worn out or ashen appearance.

The key to determining the right kind of mineral makeup for your skin is to understand your true skin tone. If you know your skin tone well, you will be able to choose the right colors for your skin, which will help you to look radiant. That's the secret to choosing your best foundation shade.

Fundamentally speaking, there are three types of skin tones: 1. Warm 2. Cool 3. Neutral

Here are some tricks to helping you in choosing your best foundation shade:

Do you have a problem in developing a skin tan? Does your skin burn when exposed to the sun even for short duration? If your answer is yes, then you have a warm skin tone. You can further test your skin tone by looking at the veins situated on the inside of your wrist in natural light. If your veins look greenish, then you have a warm skin tone with a yellow undertone. People with a cool skin tone have bluish looking veins.

Another way of determining your skin tone is to tie all your hair back in a ponytail. Cleanse your face thoroughly. Look at your face in the mirror after covering your neck and shoulders with a white cloth or towel. If your face has a bluish tone then it is a cool skin tone, whereas a yellowish reflection indicates a warm skin tone. If you develop a tan without any problems, then you have a cool skin tone and your skin has a high level of melanin.

It has also been observed that people who look good in silver jewelry have a cool skin tone while gold suits people with a warm skin tone.

Your skin tone is also reflected by your natural hair and eye color. If you have brown, black or blond hair with grey, green or blue eyes then it's most likely that you have a cool skin tone with a rosy or pink undertone. If your hair color is strawberry blond, red, brown or black with hazel, black or brown eyes, then you have an apricot or golden undertone and a warm skin tone. However, if you still cannot make out your skin tone despite all these tests, then you probably have a neutral skin tone. People with neutral skin tones can wear all kinds of colors ranging from warm to cool.

So, once you know your skin tone, then you can consider the right kind of mineral makeup colors for your face.

If you have a cool skin tone, then you can opt for true and rich colors like pure black, plum, royal blue, emerald green, raspberries and shocking pink. Icy tones are a better option than pastels in case of light makeup. Stay away from gold, orange and beige.

People with warm skin tones do well with muted or crisp earth colors. The best mineral makeup colors for you are mochas, bronzes, gold and sage greens. If you want to opt for something lighter, you can try apricot yellow or peach.

In case you are blessed with a neutral skin tone, then you have all the choice in the world. You can opt for either a cool or a warm color depending on the mood and the kind of dress you want to wear.
